Deck Tiles - Building a New Patio or Deck

Deck tiles are a great substitute for people who can't be bothered with the planning, hard work and all the other things involved in creating a permanent patio, roof or poolside deck. The beauty of interlocking tiles is that they require little or no skills to put in place and are perfect for most flat surfaces.

Some of you might live in a wet or extremely humid environment which makes composite decking tiles the best option as these tiles are mostly made from recycled plastic mixed with wood fibers making them extremely durable and looking like the real thing. It would be very hard to tell the difference between composite tiles and real wood but you will definitely feel the difference in your wallet.

Remember that real wood does require staining on an annual basis and is not that weather resistant as composite deck tiles in the long run. If the climate you are living in is really extreme then non-composite PVC tiles might be the only option for you. These kinds of tiles do not contain any wood or bamboo fibers and are the most durable not to mention lowest maintenance on the market. Let's just say that, for now, they are still not as good looking as composite tiles but this is likely to change in the near future.

For those who swear by genuine wood deck tiles, the best option would be cedar, redwood or another one of the exotic hardwoods if you want to lay a deck that will last you for some time. These kinds of wood are very oily by nature thereby making them highly resistant against rot, insects and harsh weather conditions. Just like their composite counterparts they are also available in the interlocking snap-on variety.

What makes interlocking deck tiles so attractive is that they can be used without the need for nuts and bolts. This means that people who want to lively up the look of the concrete balcony in their rented apartment do not have to worry about upsetting the landlord as these tiles can be put on any surface and can just as easily be removed once you move to another place.

You won't even have to worry about using a saw to cut the edges of your deck or patio as most of the manufacturers offer reducer strips to get rid of this problem. Interlocking deck tiles come in a variety of materials, shapes and colors so you should have no problem in finding a set or combination that is right for you.
